Myself & Other Animals by Gerald Durrell
published 2024
This new book is a collection of very varied pieces by Gerald Durrell, put together by his widow Lee to mark the centenary of his birth, to be celebrated in 2025. Durrell, who died in 1995, was a world-famous naturalist and conservationist - I say the pieces are 'very varied' but of course all of them deal with animals and wildlife in some way. I very much enjoyed the book, and am full of admiration for his work on conservation.

Gerald Durrell’s book would shock modern animal lovers
(The headline is not wholly unjustified, but I did not write it)
His most famous book, My Family and Other Animals, is on the blog here.
What a wonderful way to pay tribute to Durrell, Moira. And it sounds as though the book captured not just his knowledge of the natural world, but also his feelings about it. It seems an excellent book, and I'm glad you shared your excellent review of it.
