A Dress Revisited, and Mysteries and More from Saskatchewan
Earlier this year I did a post on Kevin Kwan's Lies and Weddings, a book that I greatly enjoyed, and which is full of excellent clothes.
Kwan mentions a lot of brand names and designers - that's part of the joy of his books. I found some nice pictures, I thought, to illustrate the post.
Now, my friend Bill Selnes blogs at Mysteries and More from Saskatchewan. As the name suggests, he covers a lot of crime fiction - and is very good on Canadian authors. But, like me, he is a big fan of Kevin Kwan's work.
So he blogged on the book too - and THEN he went and researched an actual dress from the story - 'the dress Eden chose to wear to the wedding of her friend Lady Augusta'. He tracked down the designer and some wonderful photos... I am just giving you a flavour here, because really you should go over to Bill's post and read about his researches and see two fabulous pictures.
I wrote to Bill about his achievements - and I have invented a Clothes in Books award specially for him. You can read my email and his reply in this post.
I say there that he has always been a friend to and supporter of my blog - and particularly we can always consult him on legal affairs (he is a lawyer) and also on dressing for the weather. As I point out:
when a heroine is wandering around outside unsuitably clad Bill will have a pithy comment about how better to dress for a cold climate (all that Canadian experience)... A heroine in a flattering but flimsy outfit, however fashionable, will be sternly told to put on a more suitable hat (one that keeps her warm and won't blow away), a scarf and a down jacket.
I strongly recommend Bill's blog , even when I am not featured on it!
I'm so glad you did a post on Bill's post, Moira. I thought it was excellent, and I am privileged to consider him (and you!) among my friends. I've been richly enjoying the exchange between you.
ReplyDeletethanks Margot - as such a good friend to us both you are the person best placed to appreciate what happened!
DeleteMoira: Thanks for the kind words. I equally enjoyed our exchange. I admire your knowledge of clothes and books and clothes in books. I am highly confident you will appear again in my blog.
ReplyDeleteIndeed Bill - and when people are down on the internet, I like to remind them of the happy relationships, and events, and joyous moments that come our way. This is defintely one of them!
DeleteVery informative.
