Everyone's favourite media vicar Richard Coles has produced a detective story called Murder Before Evensong - and I have reviewed it for the i newspaper. Is it a celebrity clunker or an admirable achievement? How does it compare with the crime books by that other celebrity Richard (Richard Osman)?
You can find the answers in my review here:
It sounds as though this was entertaining, Moira, if not exactly stellar. You make an interesting point, too, about a book that seems to cross genres, and the impact that has on a story Sometimes books aren't entirely sure what they want to be, if that makes sense. Still, I'm glad there are things to like about it.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very good description, Margot, and I would be more forgiving of that if he had been an unknown debut author. But people will enjoy reading it...
