I did a special Halloween blogpost on this book last week – well, it couldn’t have been better-suited to the date  - but am delighted also to be taking part in this blog tour. Elly Griffiths is one of my favourite contemporary authors, and I consider myself to be one of her biggest fans.

Her books have so much to offer – historical details, and  rounded characters, and great jokes. Everyone is presented as having normal faults – but they are not judged (except for the criminals of course).  Elly Griffiths achieves her effects without having undue gruesomeness or those horrible descriptions of violence to women that are so prevalent: there are murders, but they are not sickening, though her books are anything but cozy.
I love Griffiths’ basically liberal, good-hearted view of the world. This shines through both her series to date, and in this new standalone. I said in last week’s post:

I am running out of superlatives.
The Stranger Diaries is a great book, and you should read it.
You can read more details of the plot of the new book in my previous post

  1. I couldn't agree more about Griffiths' talent, Moira. She's terrific, and I learn a lot from her writing. One thing I really admire is her way of creating such different - yet all very good - series and standalones.
