Verdict of Us All is a group of crime fiction fans giving snap judgements in answer to a question of interest to us all. So in the past we have covered:
Given the time of year the following theme was decided on for this edition of The Verdict of Us All:
And if you head over to Kate's blog at CrossExaming Crime, you can read which books were picked...
Author you will Never Read sounds interesting! I had a look through it, but I think for me, it would be more "Author you wish you had never read."
ReplyDeleteI think Envious Casca would be my favourite Christmas mystery too, can't disagree with your pick!
Author you wish you had never read - that's a great category. I can think of a few. As I have grown older I have become less inclined to think I must persevere with authors I don't much like. When I think back, I shake my head at the number of books I have read by people I already knew I didn't like...
DeleteI'll name one name. Karin Slaughter. I actually have read a couple of her books, because I tend to mistake her for Kathy Reichs, whose Temperance Brennan books I have enjoyed. It's not that Slaughter is a bad writer, it's just that the ones I have read seemed to show some highly dubious attitudes, and that affected how much I enjoyed them. (Actually, it made me uncomfortable.)
DeleteOn the other hand, Karin Slaughter rather has the perfect name for writing the books she does. I kind of hope she isn't really called Prunella Mumble.
I love that, Prunella Mumble! I've never read her, and now I can rest safe in that decision...
DeleteMoira, I'm mostly in "The Author You Wished Had Written One More Book" category. My pick would be British author Oliver Strange who wrote just ten Western novels based on Sudden, the Texas outlaw, without once crossing the Atlantic. I do wish he'd written much more.
ReplyDeleteOh, I haven't read many Westerns, but I have read a couple of those, and remember them as being very good.
DeleteThe choices were all interesting. I am currently reading stories from The Big Book of Christmas Mysteries that Rich picked. I read a few stories from that book last year, and getting to more of them this year. I have not read Envious Casca yet, Maybe in 2017. Of course I like Brad's choice, Hercule Poirot's Christmas.
ReplyDeleteThe others will all be ones I will consider for another year.
It was an interesting list wasn't it? I did like the idea, and the cover, of the big story collection...
