A group of crime bloggers have got together under the gentle direction of Kate Jackson (cross-examining crime/ armchair reviewer) to contribute something to a round-table discussion: each of us will supply a shortish answer to a question of interest, on a regular basis. The results will be disseminated under the general title
The Verdict of Us All
Our latest collection of ideas is up now on Brad Friedman’s Ah Sweet Mystery blog – we’ve all given our opinion on which book we wish a favourite author hadn’t written. There’s some tough talking here – the authors chosen include Agatha Christie, John Dickson Carr, Ellery Queen and Ruth Rendell…
So do head over there whether you’re going to agree or disagree. Brad’s blog is just on 100 entries and one year old, and well worth a visit anyway– he has some great posts on classic detective fiction, so well worth a look around while you’re there.
And of course we’re hoping our readers will make their own nominations – just pile in in the comments….
Oh, sounds interesting, Moira!! And what a great idea for round-table discussion. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested to know what your choice was Margot - but I know you are very discreet about making criticisms... so perhaps we will never know!
DeleteThis is not the type of question I can ever answer. Maybe six months later something might occur to me... if I remembered the question by then.
ReplyDeleteI thought it would be hard - partly because Brad had specified that it must be an author you like - but in fact didn't find it difficult at all...
DeleteEach to their own, I'm not familiar with any of the authors in the post TBH, though a few are in the tubs - a somewhat token gesture to expand my reading.
ReplyDeleteBut is there any author who wrote a book you really didn't like? Could be any genre! the key is, it has to be someone whose other books you did like.
DeleteDoes this have to be a Golden Age writer? I don't read many of those books.
ReplyDeleteI realized afterwards that most people had done Golden Age, but I didn't, and I wasn't expelled! I think the question is whatever the answerer wants to make it. What would you choose from more modern writers? Remember, it should be a writer that you like overall...
