I got the first book from amazon merchants, and paid £16 for it, but I was desperate to read it. The second one has been republished by Greyladies.Clothes In Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14680610242823846662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6129427507761315524.post-167871789903618602016-09-08T23:55:32.252+01:002016-09-08T23:55:32.252+01:00Of course I've just realised both my examples ...Of course I've just realised both my examples are fictionalised autobiography, rather than "pure fiction", so perhaps they don't really count!Susanna Taylernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6129427507761315524.post-30225328986623979172016-09-08T23:51:44.290+01:002016-09-08T23:51:44.290+01:00Judith Kerr does this with her trilogy When Hitler...Judith Kerr does this with her trilogy When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit/ Bombs On Aunt Dainty/ A Small Person Far Away. The first book I loved when I was about ten, but I didn't really like the second till I was a teenager, and the last one is definitely intended for adults. The need for the reader to be a similar age to the protagonist is interesting. Laura Ingalls Wilder in the Little House books is similar, I think - more complicated emotions and situations as she grows up, so the books get slightly more adult as well.<br />These two Kitty Barne books sound lovely - but the first one seems tricky to get hold of unfortunately...Susanna Taylernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6129427507761315524.post-52445425398723559822016-09-08T16:38:14.094+01:002016-09-08T16:38:14.094+01:00I know! And it was well worth reading - really drew me in to the atmosphere of the 1930s. I can see why you liked this one so well, Moira. So interesting, too, that this one is more intended for adults, while the first is a children's novel. I don't think I've ever seen that. Fascinating!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
