Colm's piece here is much better and more entertaining. But I was pleased that I had seen this post before I saw the article so I actually had some idea what they were talking about. I'd never heard of it till there was a tv drama series of that name. I think it was episodic, different eps concentrating on different residents / patrons of the pub.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06011296681890229306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6129427507761315524.post-11929593478229314972015-02-18T20:00:50.093+00:002015-02-18T20:00:50.093+00:00Colm, I don't think the original Apple Boutiqu...Colm, I don't think the original Apple Boutique was on the Kings Road. I did at various times walk the length of the road from Peter Jones at Sloane Square to the Worlds End Pub, a few yards past my father's shop. The road and the entire area was buzzing and the very rich lived side by side with ordinary longstanding residents of the area. A situation that has probably altered after all these years. This picture supposedly dates to 1968 although I do wonder how much Cynthia had to do with the Beatles by then... Then again if it is true the clothes came from Apple I don't think it can be any earlier than 1968. But - like Viv Albertine - she's a child of the quite early 50s. Being a teenager in the 60s like they were was very different than being one in the 70s, as I was, even though I'm only a little younger than them. The behind the scenes stuff does come from a much later era.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06011296681890229306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6129427507761315524.post-51299300549368766342015-02-17T16:55:53.657+00:002015-02-17T16:55:53.657+00:00Moira- The name Marianne Faithfull really reminds ...Moira- The name Marianne Faithfull really reminds me of the 1960s. I our all male hall of residence at university we crowded into the TV room to see her on Top of the Pops. Also that year 1963 the young Lesley Gore, who has sadly just died, was a favourite. We didn't have tVs in our rooms in those days just portable record players.
My father had a shop in the King's Road, Chelsea, which was really exciting seeing so many young women. But I was too shy, too short, and too young, to fully enjoy the situation. It is a pity we don't know at 19 what we have discovered by 39. ;-)

We saw many of the personalities of the time; Stephen Ward [Profumo Scandal] was a customer, and Mick Jagger. Looking back it was a wonderful time, because my parents loved working in London.
Uriah Robinsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02046023583067265187noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6129427507761315524.post-27560172881856432572015-02-16T23:00:17.756+00:002015-02-16T23:00:17.756+00:00Patti Boyd was seen at a "Happening" wea...Patti Boyd was seen at a "Happening" wearing red lipstick on her upper lip only. That was sooooo transgressive (as we didn't say at the time)! My mother made me a long dress from some material I bought at a textile students' sale, abstract purple and seagreen.Lucy R. And Kim Gordon's perspective means that there are, I'd guess, lots of interesting 'behind the scenes' stories too. From the bit you've shared, it doesn't sound too self-indulgent, either. Thanks for sharing. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
