When I was young, I would always follow up other books mentioned in my favourite books, and I made a lot of fantastic discoveries that way. Although odd, the couple is an interesting one, the older, more stodgy Holmes with the young energetic, free spirit Mary Russell. <br />I must find the time to read more of these books (sigh) sometime, but as far as details, my opinion as a reader is delete the theatre news, the corner store sundries and gossip, but for gosh sakes, keep in the book titles being read by the characters!!! We book fiends need to know these things, especially what people were reading.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6129427507761315524.post-81404945241646504522015-03-01T09:58:29.967+00:002015-03-01T09:58:29.967+00:00I find this series varies more dramatically than m...I find this series varies more dramatically than most others - I can't tell when I start the book, but some I find a real struggle to get through, while others grab me....Clothes In Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14680610242823846662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6129427507761315524.post-28778418260499894762015-02-28T21:51:05.556+00:002015-02-28T21:51:05.556+00:00Someday I have to make myself continue this series...Someday I have to make myself continue this series. But too much is a turnoff in my view, when it's adding nothing to the plot or character.Clothes In Bookshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14680610242823846662noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6129427507761315524.post-9682127882537788672015-02-28T12:41:28.221+00:002015-02-28T12:41:28.221+00:00Moira - I'm glad you liked this. A bit of that can help set the scene, and I think it can add to a story. But too much does get tedious. The same is true I think of historical information. Some of that is fascinating and important to the plot. An overload can make a story seem more like a textbook than a novel. Not saying this one goes that far, but still....
