Eventually he forced me to read one and you could have knocked me down with a feather: I thought it was hilarious, satirical, clever, the whole works. That one was The Truth, which deals with journalism - my own home field so perhaps why I liked it so much - I also like Guards!Guards!, and on the blog I've done Maskerade and Men at Arms. There are mini-series within the oeuvre (tho no need at all to read them in order) and the Watch ones might be good for you, including Guards! Guards! and Men at Arms.
